Loss of Singapore passport
Information on what to do if you have lost your passport while travelling in Japan, and applying for a Document of Identity for urgent return to Singapore.
Please note that if your passport is lost or damaged, you are not allowed to apply for a new passport online.
Singaporean travellers who have lost their passport should visit ICA’s website (www.ica.gov.sg) to (i) report the loss of their Singapore passport; and (ii) apply for a temporary travel document known as a Document of Identity (DOI) to facilitate their return home.
When reporting the loss of the passport, please indicate “Japan” as the location of loss and proceed to make online payment of SGD15 (or JPY1,700) for the DOI. Once the application for the DOI is approved, ICA will send the DOI via PDF format to the Singaporean’s designated email.
The DOI must be printed in colour and presented as a physical copy to the Japanese immigration authorities for exit from the country.
Please note that the DOI is for one-way travel to Singapore only, and needs to be surrendered to the Immigration Officer upon return. A new passport needs to be applied at ICA for replacement. The passport which was reported lost would be cancelled with immediate effect and cannot be used for travel even if it is recovered subsequently. Should you recover your lost passport, you must surrender it to ICA or the Embassy personally within 14 days.
If you are not able to access the MyICA e-Services portal with your SingPass or if you face issues with the application process, please contact the Embassy.
